During the pandemic, doctors have realized that they offer almost no influence to public health.
There are other stakeholders involved in the decision making process and each stakeholder has their own interests. The patients, the government, the insurance companies, pharmaceutical companies all have different agendas. This leaves doctors feeling powerless and frustrated.
This frustration is compounded by the fact that social media influencers now have more influence over public health than doctors do. This is because people are more likely to trust someone with a large following on social media than they are to trust a doctor.
Doctors on social media often give conflicting advice, which can be confusing for people. Never before has there been so much doctor on doctor hate based on preexisting belief systems. Physicians by nature know that it's okay to disagree. however, when it's on social media, all of a sudden emotions get triggered.
Additionally, social media influencers often have a better understanding of how to market themselves than doctors do. As a result, they are able to reach a larger audience with their message.
This shift in power has led to a decline in the relationship between doctors and patients. Patients are now more likely to seek advice from social media influencers than they are to trust their doctor.
This is because they feel like they can get "unbiased" advice but the reality is far from truth. Additionally, patients often feel like their doctor do not have their best interests at heart, which is also often untrue. The current wave of human behavior is controlled by whoever controlls the media. This leads to a massive corrosion of the classic doctor-patient relationship.
This decline in the doctor-patient relationship has led to an increase in burnout among doctors. This is because they feel like they are not able to help their patients as much as they would like to. Additionally, they feel like they are constantly fighting an uphill battle against the other stakeholders in the healthcare system. If this trend continues, it is likely that more doctors will burn out and leave the profession. This would be detrimental to public health as it would lead to a decline in the quality of care that people receive.
The new age of physicians should include the education on communication, public speaking, social media presence, and influence.
